Term | Definition |

Eutrophication | An increase in the amount of nutrients in a body of water |
ABIOTIC | Non-living components that affect an organism such as water, soil, sunlight, landforms |
Biotic | Living organisms in an environment such as plants and animals |
Ecosystem | Place consisting of all the biotic and abiotic things interacting with one another |
Topography | Shape of the land determined by elevation, relief and landforms |
River | A large natural stream |
River Source | Beginning of a river, headwaters |
River Mouth | Place where a river empties out |
Tributary | A stream that flows into a larger stream or river |
Divide | Ridge of land that separates one drainage basin or watershed from another |
Drainage Basin | Land area from which a river and its tributaries collect their water |
Delta | Landform made of sediment that is deposited where a river flows into a lake or ocean |
Watershed | A region draining into a river, river system, or body of water |
