Soccer Field Command

TermDefinition
Drop pass/play the ball to players behind you
Man on a defender is closing in
You got ________: This player is open (ex. You got Jane!)
Away clear the ball immediately
Ball I'm open pass me the ball
Keeper goalkeeper will claim the ball, get out of the way
Hold up delay the attack so defense can get back or attackers can get forward
Pass look to pass instead of running and dribbling
Cross play the ball across the filed
Spread out spread out and use the whole field to stretch the opponent's defense
Shift left/right defense or midfield needs to shift to cover an attack out wide
Turn if you turn you can shoot or go forward
Wing look to play the ball out wide to the wingers
Shoot take the shot now!
(non-verbal) Raising hand or pointing at feet silently indicates that you are open for a pass
(non-verbal) Rotating your hands you are hurt/tired/struggling and need to be substituted
