TermDefinition
city states An independent state consisting of a city and its surrounding territory.
Classical Art Figures were lifelike but often idealized, or more perfect than in real life
humanism belief in the worth and potential of all individuals
perspective a visual technique used to make people and objects look closer or farther away and to give realistic depth to a scene.
Medieval Art Figures looked stiff, with little sense of movement
Renaissance Art art that showed full backgrounds and showed perspective
patron someone who commissioned (ordered and paid for) new buildings and art.
republic a form of government in which citizens elect representatives to rule for them
humanities collectively, areas of study that focus on human life and culture, such as history, literature, and ethics
