| New Deal | A series of domestic programs enacted in the United States between 1953 and 1938, and a few that came later. |
| Barter | Exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money. |
| Subsidy | A sum of money granted by the government or a public body to assist an industry or business so that the price of a commodity or service may remain low or competitive. |
| Labor union | An organized association of workers, often in a trade or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests. |
| Relief | A feeling of reassurance and relaxation following release from anxiety or distress. |
| Strike | A refusal to work organized by a body of employees as a form of protest, typically in an attempt to gain a concession or concessions from their employer. |
| Cooperative | A farm, business, or other organization that is owned and run jointly by its members, who share the profits or benefits. |
| Recession | A period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced, generally identified by a fall in GDP in two successive quarters. |
| Minimum wage | The lowest wage permitted by law or by a special agreement (such as one with a labor union). |
| Social Security Act | An act to provide for the general welfare by establishing a system of Federal old-age benefits. |
| Rural Eletrification | Is the process of bringing electrical power to rural and remote areas. |
| Civilian Conservation Corps | An innovative federally funded organization that put thousands of Americans to work during the Great Depression on projects with environmental benefits. |
| E.D. Rivers | Served consecutive two-year terms as Georgia's governor (elected in 1936 and reelected in 1938). |
| Eugene Talmadge | Played a leading role in the state's politics from 1926 to 1946. |
