Bicameral legislature divided into two houses: The Senate and the House of Representatives
Civil Law Laws dealing with disputes between citizens (when someone sues someone else) as well as Juvenile Cases.
Criminal law Laws dealing with criminal acts and their punishments
Declaration of Independence A document that is used to separate a country from another country. EXAMPLE: Texas from Mexico (1836), the U.S.A. from the U.K. (1776)
Cabinet a group of officials who work for and advise the Governor and control executive agencies.
Appoint assign a job or role to someone.
Appeal requesting a formal change to an official decision.
Attorney General The top lawyer for the state. (Ken Paxton)
Annexed add to, join, or attach. (example – the U.S. annexed the Republic of Texas and admitted it to the Union as the 28th state)
1st amendment Freedom of speech, religion, the press, petition, & assembly
2nd amendment Right To Bear Arms (guns)
5th amendment Right of due process of law (plead the 5th – don’t have to be a witness against yourself)
