Causes of World War I

| Imperialism | when one country takes over another for its resources |
| Nationalism | fighting for the freedom and the protection of a nation's culture and heritage |

| Triple Alliance/Central Powers | Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy |
| Front | a line along which opposing armies face each other |
| Trench Warfare | soldiers fought from two trenches, or ditches |
| Bolshevik Revolution | Russian Revolution (Soviet Union) |
| Vladimir Lenin | leader of the Bolsheviks |
| Lusitania | British passenger ship sunk by a German u-boat |
| Zimmerman Telegram | sent by Germany to Mexico asking for help to fight in exchange for US land |
