| Term | Definition |

| Subcontinent | A large landmass that is part of a continent but that has its own geographic identity. |
| Himalayas | A mountain range that stretches about 1,500 miles across South Asia. |
| Northern Plains | Plains that lie between the Himalaya mountains and Southern India |
| Delta | A triangular delta deposit of soil at the mouth of a river |
| Sediment | Small fragment of rock that are moved around by wind, water, or ice |
| Deccan Plateau | A plateau that makes up most of Southern India |
| Monsoon | A seasonal wind that brings great amounts of rain |
| Mountains | encourage: provide soil from winter snow melting down the mountain carrying sediment discourage: hard for travel, and trade, living ( where you put your house and other things) , and terrain |
| Plains | encourage: good soil for farming, water for gardening discourage: building, ruff patches for farming, dry ground sometimes |
| Deserts | encourage: no floods discourage: dry plains, no water for crops, mountains, hot weather |
| Rivers | encourage: carries soil, provides water for crops, cool weather near rivers, provides food like fish discourage: too wet sometimes, could cause floods, water falls, irrigation |
