Agricultural Revolution Turning point that began about 10,000 years ago when humans began to live in settled communities and raise plants (farming) and animals
What did cave paintings tell us about early humans? One of the first signs of communication or language. The paintings often told a story.
What type of artifacts would be found in the Paleolithic Era? Spear, flint, fossils, animal bones
What type of artifacts would be found in the Neolithic Era? Pottery, statues, plow, sickle
What were some push/pull factors that caused early humans to migrate? Most early humans migrated in search of food. Sometimes climate changes forced societies to move as well.
What global issues did early humans face? Food shortages, diseases and climate changes
How do Biomes play a role in determining what crops will grow where? Crops need different types of soil and climate. We don't usually see bananas and coffee grown in Michigan because we don't have a tropical climate. However, Michigan can grow apples and blueberries because these crops can survive in cooler climates.
Explain how the Paleolithic people lived and found food Paleo people traveled in groups of 20-30 constantly searching for food. Life was about survival and keeping the group fed.
Explain how the Paleolithic people divided their labor Jobs were divided up based on gender (men were physically stronger so they hunted and women took care of the children and did the gathering.
Explain how the Paleolithic people used animals and tools They hunted animals for food and then would use almost all parts of the animal for a variety of things (hides for clothes and bones for weapons) Typically used spears and flint
Explain how the Paleolithic people lived (types of homes) Their homes were light weight and moveable
Explain how the Neolithic people lived and found food Neolithic people began to settle into more permanent large scale communities (over 100 and up to 1000 people). Farming is the main turning point of this era or the domestication of plants... this provided a reliable and sustainable food supply.
Explain how the Neolithic people used animals and tools Animals were also domesticated or tamed and farms emerged.
Explain how the Neolithic people divided their labor Labor was divided by skill or specialization of labor. Neolithic had much more leisure time than those during the Paleolithic Era
What role did language play in the migration of early humans? Helped share ideas, helped plan trade routes, helped with problem solving among groups
