What are the requirements to be on the House of Representatives? They must be 25 years old, must be a citizen for 7 years, must live in state they are representing, and they serve two year terms and there are 435 members
What are the requirements to be a Senate? Must be 30 years old, must be a citizen for 9 years, must live in the state they are representing, they serve 6 year terms and there are 100 members
What branch does article one make up? Legislative branch
What is the main idea of article one? The congress is bicameral and is made of the House of Representatives and the senate and their job is to make the laws
What is reserved power? Any power not given directly to the Federal government is reserved to the States.
What is the elastic clause? Gives the congress the power to stretch its power and make laws that are necessary and proper.
What branch does article two make? Executive
What does the executive branch do? Carries out laws
What are the requirements to be the president? Must be a natural born citizen/born on U.S. soil or at least one parent is a citizen, Must live in the U.S. for 14 consecutive years, Must be 35 years old, they serve 4 year terms
What are some of the president's jobs? Chief Ambassador, sign bills into laws or veto the bills, yearly give a State of the Union address to both Houses of Congress, Enforcer of the law, propose laws,commander in chief, signs treaties, power to pick supreme court and federal judges
What happen when two people are running for President and no one wins the electoral vote? The House Of Representatives chooses the winner
What is the lawmaking process? Law must make it through both houses, President signs it or can Veto it, Vetoed laws can be overridden and passed with 2/3rds vote in both houses
How is a President impeached? He is charged with a crime House of Representatives votes if the president should be impeached. If they vote yes then the Senate will act as the jury for a trial with the Chief Justice of the supreme court acting as a Judge.
What are some crimes that presidents can do to be impeached? Bribery, treason, felony, or high misdemeanor
What branch does article 3 setup? Judicial
What are some jobs of the Judicial Branch? Interpret the laws, decide if a law is constitutional, Supreme courts, Lower courts (Court of appeals, District Courts)
What are the requirements to be a justice and how long do you serve? There is no requirements and until they exhibit bad behavior
What cases does the supreme court hear? They hand select Constitutional cases
What is the main idea of article 4? States rights and responsibilities
What is the amendment process described in article 5? 2/3 of congress or 2/3 of the states call for a convention, then 3/4 of states or 38/50 must pass it.
What is the main idea of article 6? Makes constitution the supreme law of the land, all states must follow rules of the constitution
How many states had to approve of the Constitution? 9/13
What is the main idea of article 7? The ratification process
Who makes up the legislative branch? The congress which is bicameral, House of representatives
Who makes up the executive branch? President, Vice president, Cabinet
Who makes up the Judicial branch? Supreme courts and lower courts
What is the job of the legislator? Make the laws
What is the job of the Executive? Carry out the laws/Enforce
What is the job of the Judicial? Interpret laws
