Physical features of Latin America

TermDefinition
Atacama desert The most arid region in Latin America. It is located in Chile and west of the Andes mountains.
Amazon river Located in Brazil and runs through the rainforest. This is the longest river in Latin America.
Gulf of Mexico A body of water located east of Mexico and is nearly surrounded by Mexico.
Caribbean sea A body of water that is located east of central America and holds many small island nations.
Panama canal Man-made waterway connecting the Pacific and Atlantic ocean.
Andes mountains A long mountain chain that runs through western South America.
Sierra Madres The mountain ranges that run through central America and eastern and western sides of Mexico.
Pacific ocean The ocean to the west of Latin America.
Bolivia ( not Paraguay) Land-locked country in South America.
Climate The typical weather conditions for a particular region.
Natural resources Useful materials not man-made by humans.
Population The spread of people living in a region.
Cuba Communist nation with many ports, but small compared to other countries. It is often hit by hurricanes.
Brazil This country is the largest country in Latin America. People live near the coast because the rainforests in the interior.
Mexico This country has a diverse climate region. Its major trading partner is the U.S.A.
Venezuela1 Borders Caribbean sea and Atlantic ocean making trade easy. Its main export is oil. They have a tropical climate but cooler in the mountains.
Air pollution Contaminating the air with harmful chemicals.
Deforestation Cutting down huge chunks of forested regions.
Amazon Rainforest The name of the rainforest in Brazil.
Mexico City, Mexico This country has major air pollution problems in its capital city.
Venezuela2 This country has major oil pollution problems.
Mulatto A person mixed African and European descent.
Mestizo A person mixed native and European descent.
Catholic A religion practiced by Spanish colonists to Latin America.
Portuguese Main language in Brazil.
Spanish Main language in most of Latin America.
