technological tools and methods used to help humans perform tasks
political relating to civil government and its administration (how it is run); concerned with state (national) affairs or measures

Caravel a popular ship used for exploring in the 15th and early 16th centuries, especially by the Portuguese; it was easy to maneuver, could sail up rivers, and had triangular sails so it could sail into the wind
Compass a magnetic north seeking instrument which allows ships to steer a selected course and fix a ship’s position on a chart
Astrolabe an instrument used by sailors to measure the height of a star, the moon, or the sun above the horizon so they could determine latitude
Latitude the distance north or south of the equator
Navigate the science of determining (figuring out) the location, speed, destination, and direction of craft (to include ships, planes, cars, and tanks)
Rudder a vertical pane or blade at the back of a ship. It is used to steer the ship
Gunpowder an explosive mixture of potassium nitrate, sulfur, and charcoal for use in fireworks, blasting, and weapons
Cultural relating to the beliefs, knowledge, values, traditions, language(s), and religious views of a society
Social relating to man living in society or to the public as an aggregate body (all-together)
