Northern Lights Chapter 5: The Fur Trade

TermDefinition
profit The money gained from the sale of goods or services after all the cost needed to make the sale is subtracted from the amount received.
resource A source or supply of a useful material.
fur trader A term used for a European or American involved in the fur trade and often the person in charge of the trading post.
pelt An animal skin with the fur on it.
hunter A person, usually a man, who spends most of his time hunting or trapping animals for the fur trade.
guide A person who is hired to help fur traders and voyageurs find their way through the woods and waterways.
interpreter A person who translates for people who speak different languages.
clerk Manages the day to day business at the trading post.
voyageur Workman who performed the physical labor of the fur trade, usually transporting furs and goods by canoe.
