| Pedro Menendez de Aviles | Spanish leader who helped build the settlement at St. Augustine, Florida. |
| Queen Elizabeth I | Queen of England from 1558-1603. |
| Sir Walter Raleigh | English explorer who helped set up England's first colony in North American, on Roanoke Island. |
| John White | English settler who lead the second group that settled on Roanoke Island. |
| John Smith | English explorer and leader of the Jamestown settlement. |
| Pocahontas | Daughter of Chief Powhatan. She married English settler John Rolfe. |
| John Rolfe | Jamestown settler who introduced a new form of tobacco that led to great profits. |
| King Henry VIII | British King who banned the Catholic Church replacing it with the Church of England. Required all British citizens to belong to the Church of England, and punished those who disagreed. |
| William Bradford | English Pilgrim settler and the governor of the Plymouth Colony. |
| Samoset | Native American who spoke English and helped English settlers at Plymouth. |
| Tisquantum or Squanto | Native American who spoke English. He was enslaved by the Spanish. He escaped and lived in England for a time before returning to American. Squanto showed the Pilgrims where to fish and how to plant food. |
