What is the Proclamation of 1763? Stated that colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains,this was to protect the colonists from Native American attacks and tension. It angered the colonists
Stamp Act 1765- made colonists purchase an official seal/stamp for all official documents.It was repealed a year later later because colonists boycotted British goods.
Townshend Acts 1767- imposed special taxes on goods colonists imported, such as, glass and lead. it was used to prevent upsetting the colonists. It led to the Boston Massacre. Repealed in 1770
What were the colonists responses to the British taxes? held rallies, attack officials, boycotted British goods, Sons of Liberty were created, and the Boston Massacre
Who were the Sons of Liberty? A group of colonists who spread news of injustices of the new British taxes.
What was the Boston Massacre? An event were the colonists and the British soldiers had conflict that led to deaths and it was used for propaganda.

What was the Boston Tea Party? Colonists protested by dressing as Native Americans and dumping shipments of tea into the Boston Harbor. All taxes were repealed except on tea.
Intolerable Acts 1774- closed the Boston Harbor and restricted freedom of citizens of Massachusetts.
What are the 4 laws that the Intolerable Acts created that were used to punish Boston? 1- close Boston Harbor 2- increased the power of the governors assigned by Britain 3- ended Massachusetts colonial government 4- strengthened the Quartering Act
Navigation Acts 1650- British used mercantilism to control the colonists for the purpose of benefiting Britain economically. Colonists could only trade with Britain.
Sugar Act lowered taxes on British sugar. used to put an end to molasses smuggling in the colonies
Quartering Act colonists must house British troops. It was used to protect the colonists from Native Americans.
Tea Act 1773- used to help the British East India Company. Colonists could only buy tea from this company. Led to the Boston Tea Party

What was the purpose of The Declaration of Independence? Stated the colonies want for independence.
What are the 3 main parts of The Declaration of Independence? 1- grievances, 2- natural rights, 3- why they wanted independence
What are the 4 Key ideas of Government in The Declaration of Independence? 1- citizens have "natural rights" and the government can't take those rights, 2- citizens have the right to repel against unjust government, 3- power belongs to the citizens, 4- government must act in the best interest of the people.
What are the Social, Economic, and Political causes of the Revolution? Social- Independence, Economic- Taxes, Political- Representation
What were the Patriots advantages during the war? they knew the land, had a strong leader in George Washington, had many experienced rifle users, and they had motive to fight.
What were the Red Coats and Loyalists advantages during the war? they were well trained, they had a powerful navy, and they outnumbered the militia.
What were the Patriots disadvantages during the war? they were poorly trained, had limited military supplies, and had no navy
What were the Red Coats and Loyalists disadvantages during the war? they were further away from home, they experienced hard times, and it takes them months to travel
What was the leader of the Continental Army (Patriots)? George Washington
Who was the leader of the British Army? Charles Cornwallis
What is cavalry? a group of soldiers who fought on horseback
What is Guerrilla Warfare? a strategy used by the Patriot soldiers in small groups using hit and run attacks on enemy
Battle of Lexington and Concord first battle of the Revolutionary War, Patriots victory with a British retreat, Paul Revere helped spread the word that British were coming
Battle of Long Island Continental Army had control over NYC, British plan was to drive Continental Army out of NYC- was successful, British use NYC as headquarters, it was the worst loss for the Continental Army- many deaths and men leaving
The Battle of Trenton (Valley Forge) British Victory, forced Patriots to retreat over the Delaware River
Valley Forge time of hardships for Continental Army, they weren't getting supplies, Washington used it as a time to train the soldiers
Battle of Saratoga Turning point of the war, Patriots victory, showed European countries Patriots could win
Battle of Yorktown Cornwallis makes a terrible move in relocating the British troops, British were trapped, British surrender on October 19, 1781
What is the Treaty of Paris? ended the war- 4/14/1783, Britain recognizes independence of the US, new boundaries were created, Florida was returned to Spain, states pledge to pay for damages and lost property to Loyalists during the war and return their states' rights
What were the new boundaries that the Treaty of Paris created? went from the Atlantic on the east to the Mississippi on the west and from Canada in the north to Florida in the south
What was an immediate affect of the American Revolution? it created a new nation of 13 independent states, linked by ties of customs and history.
What was a long term affect of the American Revolution? freedom
How did the Revolution affect France? French citizens begin to rebel
What did the colonists begin to form to protect themselves from Britain? militia
On April 19, 1775, British troops set out for Concord, what was their mission? to arrest rebel leaders and seize weapons
