feudalism [feudalism: the economic and political system of medieval Europe in which people exchanged loyalty and labor for a lord's protection]

Roman Catholic church •its the Christian church headed by the pope •The branch of Christianity headed by the pope. •The Church was a central part of society during this time.

Monarch • the king or queen •a ruler •(usually a king, but sometimes a queen). •all the land in the kingdom belonged to the monarch
Manor •the land and estate of a lord including farm • or large estates •a large country house with lands; the principal house of a landed estate •a unit of land, originally a feudal lordship, consisting of a lord's demesne and lands rented to tenants
Divine Right •goes with the monarch •god said that you could rule • believes god gives monarchs the power to rule •they believe that god told him he was king • the idea that God had given them the right to rule.
Noble •refers to the knights, monarchs, and lords •nobles by birth •to provide enough knights and soldiers. •a person of noble rank or birth
Duke •comes right after monarchy ranking right under monarch •a male holding the highest hereditary title in the British and certain other peerages.
Hierarchy •a general •someone in charge •someone higher than someone else •a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority
Chivalry • the knights ideal behavior of loyalty, •[chivalry: the medieval knight’s code of ideal behavior, including bravery, loyalty, and respect for women] . • a strong code of behavior lived by the knights
Fief [fief: land granted by a lord to a vassal in exchange for loyalty and service] •or land grants
