| Age of Exploration | Period of European history when Europe colonized North and South America in the 1500-1600's |
| Spain | The country that colonized most of Latin America during the age of exploration. This is why most Latin American countries speak Spanish. |
| Portugal | The country that colonized Brazil during the age of exploration. They also found a route to Asia by sailing around Africa. |
| Prince Henry | Created a School of Navigation training Portuguese explorers using new tools like better compasses for exploration. He also funded voyages. He sent explorers around Africa to find a trade route to Asia. |
| Columbus | Italian explorer that sailed for Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. Thought the world as much smaller than it was, and tried to sail west to get to Asia. He discovered the New World. The exchange of good between the Old and New World was named after him. |
| Imperialism | Period of European history when Europe colonized mush of Asia and Africa and Australia. |
| Great Britain (UK) | The country that had the largest empire during the age of imperialism because of its effective navy. It was so large it was said the “sun never set on it”. |
| WWI | This war began when Archduke Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by Serbian nationalists. Other causes of the war included nationalism, imperialism, militarism and alliances. |
| Russian Revolution | The Bolsheviks would led this revolution resulting in the formation of the Soviet Union. The causes for the war included Russia's involvement in WWI, The Czar's poor leadership abilities, and the mistreatment of the poor in Russia. |
| Treaty of Versailles | This is the Treaty signed at Yalta. It blamed Germany for the war and forced Germany to pay for the war. It also did not allow Germany to build and army or invade surrounding countries. |
| WWII | This war began in 1938 when Germany invaded Poland. Its causes included Treaty of Versailles, the Depression in Germany, and rise of Fascism in Europe. |
| Cold War | This is the time period of history from 1945-1990 when the US and Soviet Union threatened each other with nuclear war. The conflict began after WWII when the Soviet Union refused to give up control of Eastern European countries and East Germany. |
| Communist | The Soviet Union forced Eastern Europe including East Germany and East Berlin to have this type of government |
| Berlin Wall | This was built to keep people from East Berlin from fleeing to democratic west Berlin |
| Vladimir Lenin | The first leader of the Soviet Union. He played a key role in the Russian Revolution. He brought communism to Russia. |
| Josef Stalin | The cruel Soviet dictator that was in charge of the Soviet Union during WWII. |
| Adolf Hitler | The fascist dictator of Germany that led Germany into WWII and was the leader of the Holocaust. |
