| Feudalism | Definition: the dominant social system in medieval Europe Explanation: it was to separate the classes of people during the Middle Ages in Europe |
| Barbarian | Definition: a member of a community or tribe not belonging to one of the great civilizations Explanation: they could be very much like a beast |
| Roman Catholic Church | Definition: a branch of Christianity headed by the pope and is also governed by hierarchy with the pope at the top and at the lower levels, bishops and priests Explanations: it was an area where people could come to pray and consists of 23 churches |
| Pope | Definition: the bishop of Rome as head of the Roman Catholic Church Explanation: he was also known as the “Holy Father” |
| Monarch | Definition: a sovereign head of state, especially a king, queen, or emperor at the top of all classes Explanation: usually it’s a person or couple that are royal who were mostly wealthy and a ruler of kingdom(s) such as Pepin the Short |
| Fief | Definition: an estate of land, especially one held on condition of feudal service Explanation: only a certain person (relatives, friends, etc.) or certain group can own their plot of land |
| Manor | Definition: a large country house with lands suited for the monarchs Explanation: the knights and some peasants could only live in the manor and nobody else (safety during war) |
| Divine Right | Definition: an ancient idea that began with Europe's medieval kings Explanation: claimed that they had been chosen by God and were his representatives on Earth and now thought they had absolute power and could do whatever they liked |
| Noble | Definition: belonging to a hereditary class with high social or political status; aristocratic Explanation: they were high born people with a gentle personality and had the power of trust (exchange) |
| Duke | Definition: a male holding the highest hereditary title in the British and certain other places Explanation: dukes were the rulers of the provinces and the superiors of the counts in the cities |
| Hierarchy | Definition: a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority Explanation: this was used to have the people in certain classes sometimes based on the history of their life |
| Chivalry | Definition: the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code Explanation: it was also a moral system which went beyond rules of combat |
