| hypothesis | is a statement of what you think will happen during an investigation |
| observation | is something you find out about objects |
| experiment | is the use of scientific methods |
| variable | is something that can change in a test |
| independent variable | is one that you can control |
| dependent variable | it changes when a independent variable changes. It is what gets measured. It gives data. |
| control group | is a standard against which change is measured |
| procedures | are step by step instructions |
| data | is information from which a conclusion can be drawn or a prediction can be made |
| precision | is the ability to consistently repeat a measurement |
| accuracy | is the ability to make a measurement that is as close to the actual answer |
| inference | is a conclusion based on observations |
| evidence | are observations that make you believe that something is true |
| model | objects or ideas that represent other things |
| surveys | Are question that are answered by people. And these are great for opinion questions. |
| sampling | examining random individuals from a population |
| experimental group | The group that gets the special treatment. |
| control group | The group that doesn't get the special treatment. |
