Marxism Marxism was founded by Karl Marx. Marxism
Feminism Feminism is a conflict theory that sees conflict existing in society between men and women. Feminism rejects other sociological theories for being too male orientated.
Functionalism Functionalism is a structural consensus theory meaning it takes a macro approach, looking at how institutions impact on the individual. As it's a consensus theory it believes society is based on harmony, stability and integration.
Symbolic Interactionism Focuses on small-scale interactions rather than on social structure, how meanings are constructed through social interaction. People have a degree or control and influence over social behavior.

Theory When the sociologist begins looking at testing ideas and explanations formulated by other sociologists who carry out research in the same field.
Hypothesis An idea which the sociologist wishes to explore, set out as a statement or series of statements that he or she will test by carrying out their research.
Operationalisation They plan how they are going to carry out their research e.g choice of research method (survey) or decide on a measuring technique and defining the concept.
Field work This is where the sociologist carries out their research by implementing their research e.g carrying out a survey.
Processing the Results This is where the researcher will always analyse the data gathered and present their findings (Analysis may involve statistical analysis and the presentation of results 'can be in the form of a book or journal)
