social studies: data file terminology

TermDefinition
country a land under a particular government, inhabited by certain people, or with definite geographical limits.
capital city the town or city which is the seat of government of a country or state
currency money used as a form of exchange within a nation
population the total number of people living in a country, city, or other specified area
life expectancy the probable length of life of an individual as predicted statistically. the average number of years people live.the level of education, literacy rate, and nutrition. also the availability of doctors
birthrate the number of births per a given number of individuals(usually 1000) in a specified period of time (usually one year)
infant mortality the average number of deaths among 1000 live births within a population. directly linked to health care and education opportunities
literacy rate the ability to read and write among the population of a given country. this is a reflectionof education within a society. supports jobs opportunities or limits the opportunities of individuals to find work
