PARCC Vocab- nouns

General target vocabulary that students need to understand for PARCC

TermDefinition
Central Idea The MAIN IDEA or most important idea in a work.
Claim A statement saying that something is a FACT.
Conclusion A FINAL decision or judgement.
Context The SITUATION in which something happens.
Explicit Content Ideas stated DIRECTLY within the text.
Idea A THOUGHT, plan, or suggestion about what to do.
Key details IMPORTANT facts or pieces of information about the main idea.
Meaning What is understood as the most important QUALITIES of something.
Purpose The REASON or explanation for something.
Structure The way that something is built, arranged, or ORGANIZED.
Topic The IDEA or concept that is being described or discussed.
