What is rotation? Rotation is the earth's spin on its axis
What is revolution? Revolution is when the earth goes around the sun.
How does the earths tilt cause seasons? The tilt on earth axis causes the mid latitudes to get direct or indirect sunlight which makes the seasons
What is the climate of high lats, why? their climate is cold because the get indirect sunlight.
What is climate low lats, why? they have a hot climate because they get direct sunlight, and they are on the equator
What is climate of mid lats, why? they have a cool or warm climate depending if they are tilting away or toward the sun which effect if it is getting direct or indirect sunlight
What is climate as elevation increases, why? it gets colder as you go up in elevation
What is a rain shadow? an area that receives reduced rainfall because it is on the side of a mountain facing away from the ocean
Which climate is best for people to live in? Worst? B: Marine west coast b/c cool summers, mild winters, ample rainfall W:desert b/c water source is very unreliable
What are tectonic plates? one of the 16 pieces of earth's crust
What is a fault? a place where two tectonic plates grind against each other
What is an earthquake? a shaking or trembling of earth caused by the collisions of tectonic plates
What are the positive/negative of volcanoes? Positives: can make new land (islands) negatives: can demolish farms and vegetation
What is weathering? the process by which earth's surface is worn away by natural forces
What are the positive/ negative of agriculture? P: increases amount of food N: Slash and burn; burning down forests for room to farm
What are the positive/ negative of dam building? P: more jobs N: squeezes thousands into one area
What are the positive/ negative of deforestation? P: More land for people N: less oxygen
What are the positive/ negative of urbanization? P: more jobs N: squeezes thousands into one area
What are the positive/ negative of desertification? P: N/A N: no water in one area, could be farm land etc.
What are the positive/ negative of mining? P: Get energy N: loss of animals habitats
What is a volcano mountain created as liquid rock and ash erupt from inside the earth
