French and Indian War/Revolution.

QuestionAnswer
What years was the French and Indian War through? 1754-1763.
Why did the French and Indian War happen? The French and English were fighting over the Ohio River Valley.
What Native American tribes were on the French side? Algonquin and Huron.
What Native American tribe was on the English side? Iroquoian.
What did the Sugar Act tax? Molasses, coffee, and indigo. (1764.)
Quartering Act. British troops can stay in colonial homes, colonists supply them with needed objects/shelter, 1765.
Stamp Act. Tax on documents, wax stamp showed on payment, resulted in protests, 1765.
Stamp Act Congress. 9 colonists met in NYC, wrote a petition to King George and parliament, colonists boycotted, stamp act was repelled, 1765.
Why did the colonists believe the taxes were not fair? Because colonists had no representatives in parliament.
What were the boycotts like? Fires and effigy, 1765.
Sons and Daughters of Liberty. Groups of men and women who organized protests, mock-hangings, liberty tea.
Patrick Henry. VA, lawyer, made speeches, "Give me liberty or give me death", 1775.
George Washington. VA, French and Indian War, Revolution.
Mercy Warren. MA, wrote plays that made fun of English colonies.
Samuel Adams. MA, leader of sons of liberty, Boston tea party.
John Adams. MA. lawyer, thought to be arrogant.
What was signed after the French and Indian War was over? Treaty of Paris 1763.
What were the consequences of the French and Indian War? British won, Britain gets land east of the Mississippi River, English is in debt.
Why didnt the English go to the Ohio River Valley after they won it? Native Americans lived there, and they could not afford another war.
What document told colonists they couldn't move to the Ohio River Valley? Proclamation of 1763.
Why were cartoons used in newspapers? They were entertaining, and not everyone could read.
