nonfiction words
| Term | Definition |

| index | this lists the words alphabetically and often gives the page numbers where the words occur in the text |
| photograph | it is a picture made camera that shows how things look in real life |
| diagram | it is a drawling that shows the parts of something |
| italic print | tis is slanted text that identifies new or important words |
| heading | this tells the reader what the section of reading is about |
| bold print | it calls attention to new and important words |
| caption | these are the words next to a picture that explains what it is or is about |
| graph | it shows information in a visual way so that it can be understood by readers |
| glossary | this alphabetically lists new or important words and tells what they mean |
| table of contents | gives the heading and beginning page of each section of the book |
| illustration | this is a hand-drawn picture that helps the reader visualize the text |
| map | it is a picture that shows the location of things or places |
