Levels of Government

State Legislature The legislative branch: Senate & Congress
Governor The head of the state executive branch
Jury Group of citizens who decide who is right or whether someone is guilty.
Municipal Having to do with the local government
City Manager To oversee the day-to-day operations of the city government
Budget A budget is a plan for spending and saving money
What is the job of the federal government? To take care of the issues and problems that affect the entire country
What are some services that the federal government provides? The US Military, Military forces
Department of Treasury Prints coins and money
United States Postal Service Delivers the nations mail
Department of Transportation Makes sure that cars, airplanes & ships are used safely in the US
National Aeronautics & Space Administration Conducts space explorations
Department of Education Is to ensure equal access to education and promote educational excellence for all Americans
What are some of the services that the state government provides? They build and manage state highways and state parks
Who is the head of state executive branch of government? President & Vice President
What are some services that the local government provides? They run local schools, libraries, museums and parks
Who are some people that provide services for the government? Larger cities have their own courts to decide about traffic, parking and other matters important to the community
How do governments pay for the services they provide? Each level of government collects taxes from citizens
List 3 important facts about a $1 Bill? They all have a serial number to keep track of the money. It has a picture of the 1st President of the US. The seal of the Department of Treasury is stamped on each bill.
