New France/New Neth

Terms/People to KnowDefinition
New France The French colonies in the new world. Covered most of modern day Canada, the Ohio River Valley, and the Mississippi.
Iroquois A Native American Tribe living in modern day New York.
Champlain A French explorer that created the first permanent French settlement in the New World, Quebec.
La Salle A French explorer that claimed the Mississippi River for France.
Cartier A French explorer that discovered the mouth of the St. Lawrence River for France. He was looking for the Northwest Passage.
New Netherlands The Dutch colonies in the new world. Covered both sides of the Hudson River and Manhattan Island.
Henry Hudson An explorer that found the area known as New Netherlands
Peter Stuyvesant An important leader of New Amsterdam (the capitol of New Netherlands)
