Neutality American foreign policy that avoided getting involved at the beginning of World War I

Zimmerman Telegram Telegram sent from Germany to Mexico asking Mexico to become an ally and attack the United States. In return they would receive Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) American military sent to fight in the Western Front. Significance: Will break the stalemate of the war
John J. Pershing Leader of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF). Known for turning inexperienced soldiers into a successful miltary.
Alvin York American Hero. During the Battle of Argonne Forest he captured 132 prisoners and killed 25 Germans
Battle of Argonne Forest Turning point into war for the American AEF and Allied. Leads to breaking the stalemate.
Wilson's 14 Points Peace Plan to end WWI. Included creation of League of Nations, Freedom of the Seas, the world being safe for democracy and free people, removing barriers for trading with other countries, and secret alliances
League of Nations Created by Wilson's 14 Points. Meant to prevent future wars. America will not join because Congress votes against joining.
Senator Cabot Lodge Senator who was against the United States joining the League of Nations
Treaty of Versailles Ends WWI. Blames Germany for the war, makes them pay $33 billion on war reparations, reduces land and military. Will be the cause of WWII.
Armistice Cease fire on 11-11-11. November 11, 1918 at 11 A.M.
Great Migration African Americans from the South move to the Northeast for industrial (factory jobs)
Total Warfare All Americans were encouraged to do their part to help with the war. Buy war bonds, grow victory gardens, ration food and natural resources, enlist in the military, women work in the factories.
Propaganda War of Information used advertisement to encourage total warfare
Schneck v. United States Limits freedom of speech (1st Amendment) during war Must be "clear and present danger"
