Describe the geography of the southwest. There were canyons, mountains desert, flat top mesas good for farming, and had a lack of water. 1.9
Why do you believe there was so many lifestyles in the southwestern area? In the different areas they needed to survive differently so they used what they had and this made each area diff. and unique. 1.9
Why did the mesa people make their houses out of adobe instead of wood from trees. The mesa people lacked the trees needed to make wooden houses so they made the houses out of adobe and they stacked them like apartment buildings. 1.9
What type of crops did the early mesas plant? They had corn, beans,red pepper, and squash. For meat they had rabbit. 1.9
What are the geographical areas that make up the Great Plains? It had a vast area of trees and grasslands, more water, soft soil, and short dense grass. 1.10
How does the main food supply apply to the making of houses? Buffalo is the main food supply and the buffalo hides made the houses. The tendons of the buffalo helped sew the hides to make a drape for the house and then they would attach it to poles and make tipis. 1.10
What type of weapons do you think hunters used to kill the wild buffalo? The hunters used spears, bow and arrow, bone scrapers, rope. Then other tools they had were shields and the bowstrings for the bow. 1.10
What is the geographic features of the eastern woodlands and how did that change the food supply? There was endless forests and lakes/streams. So this allowed for the food to be deer, bear, fish, and squash. 1.11
What type of tools did they use for houses and materials their everyday thing? The houses were of log frames and were covered with bark. The tools they were the hoe, stones, nets and traps. The materials mostly used were skirts, capes, and moccasins from deerskin. 1.11
The southeast was a fertile area, explain it's geographic features. How did this contradict to their food supply? It was the coastal plains, rivers, valleys, mountains and swamps. These geographic scenery allowed for fast growing corn,beans, squash, pumpkins, and sunflowers. 1.12
What were the southeast area houses made of and what type of tools and equipment was used in their day to day life? The homes were clustered together made of strips of young trees into a rectangular shape.Since they did a lot of farming they had stone hoes, or they were made of animal shoulder blades and had wooden handles.The weapons they used were blowguns,bow/arrow. 1.12
