What is Beringia? Why was Beringia important? When did Beringia form? Beringia is a wide land bridge between Asia and North America. Beringia was important because it allowed migration to North and South America. Beringia formed during the last ice age when water levels receded showing the land. 1.2
Why did people migrate? They migrated because they followed the animals where there was fresh grass. 1.2
How did the first Americans adapt to their environment? In the North they hunted, made houses from wood and animal skins, and in the winter they built iglus. In warmer climates they gathered plants and later learned to grow crops, and built villages. They eventually developed their own cultures. 1.3

How did the American Indians view the environment? They had a strong connection to their surrounding. They believed each part of the environment had its own spirit and each person had to maintain balance with the spirits.They valued the environment and felt it was important.
When did the Europeans and other groups arrive in North America? They arrived about 500 years ago. 1.1
