What are the geographical features of this region? Plateau is covered with mountains with dense forests, drier in the central valleys and covered with sagebrush and grass. Section 1.8 / Plateau
How did people find their main food sources? The Plateau people hunted and gathered with the seasons. Section 1.8 / Plateau
Why did the Plateau people build their villages along major rivers? The groups built their villages along the rivers because the rivers provided drinking water, fish, and driftwood for shelter and firewood Section 1.8 / Plateau
How did groups find ways to survive in the Southwest? Some groups lived as " nomadic (wandering) desert hunters. And along the river, small groups hunted gathered, and farmed. The rest planted fields of corn, beans and squash on mesas. Section 1.9 / Southwest
Why were the Southwest groups homes made? Because they lacked trees for homes, they made homes from "earth itself". Using adobe they built thick-walled homes that protected them from the heat, and the cold. Section 1.9 / Southwest
What did both northern coastal and coastal people eat and why? Groups living along the Northern coast, depended on salmon. Coastal people in the south depended on shellfish. Both due to their closeness to the ocean. Away from coast, groups relied on deer, rabbits, berries, roots, and pine nuts. Section 1.6 / California
