Who has had ancestors that were in America about 10,000 years ago? Those who are American Indians had ancestors in America 10,000 years ago. 1.1
How do researchers study how American Indians adapted? Since American Indians left few written records researchers would study other items left behind by American Indians and would come up with ideas of how they adapted to their environment. 1.1
What is a common theory of how Americans migrated to America? Americans were commonly thought to have migrated on a land bridge called Beringia when Siberian hunter families over generations were following animals that were crossing. 1.2
How did Beringia get created? Beringia was created through temperatures dropping creating glaciers which trapped water making the water level drop 200 feet thus leaving a bridge of land. 1.2
What caused whom we now know as American Indians to start preying on smaller animals, plants and seeds? When earth became warmer and the animals started to die off the Siberian hunter had to find new resources for food and materials. 1.2
How did the American Indians adapt to their environment? American Indians survived by finding food to hunt in their region,making clothing,making shelters and tools. 1.3
What made it able for American Indians to stay in the same place rather than moving around? The ability to farm and grow their own crops gave American Indians the option to stay in their region instead of searching for edible plants. 1.3
What did American Indians develop over generations? American Indians developed cultures over generations in which some smaller groups became parts of larger groups and became part of their culture. 1.3
Why were American Indians so connected to their environments? American Indians became connected to their surrounding because they believed that plants, animals and other natural objects were part of the community and that a unifying force flowed through everything. 1.4
How did different tribes maintain a balance with the spirits in everything? Some tribes made corn a part of their ceremonies, others gave thanks to the animals they killed,etc. 1.4
Why would some American Indians burn down forests and built ditches? American Indians would modify the land to fit their personal needs and if someone tried to take their land (American Indians didn't believe land belonged to personally anyone) they would defend it. 1.4
What was the "Great Spirit" and what did it do? The Great Spirit used what resources were given and carved people for the new world. 1.1
