1.9 What features did the Southwest have and what food sources could be found there? Had many environments including canyons, mountains, deserts, and flat-topped mesas. Food included corn, beans, and squash.
1.9 What were the people's houses in the Southwest like? What were they made up of? Used bricks of adobe and built thick walled houses. Their houses were 4 stories high and their pueblos could hold up to 1,000 people.
1.9 Which materials did the people in the Southwest use? What was their clothing made of? Wore clothes made of cotton that was woven and spun. Also dyed clothes with bright colors from plants/minerals. They used corn grinders as tools.
1.10 How did the Great PLains' land look like including animals/food? Treeless grasslands, spread from Rockies to Mississippi Valley and from Canada to Gulf of Mexico. Eastern part had more water than Western part, so had softer soil. Buffalo were a very important food source.
1.10 What did houses look like in the Great Plains? They used buffalo tendons as thread. Buffalo skins were sewed together and fastened to a tipi.
1.10 What materials/tools were used by the people who lived in the Great PLains? Made Buffalo hides into robes and bedding. Their clothes and bags were also made out of hides. Their tools included: hardwood bows, bone knives, shields, waterproof containers,bone scrapers, horns, hooves, and buffalo dump served as fuel for fires.
1.11 What did the land look like in the Eastern Woodlands? What food was grown/hunted? Eastern Woodlands stretched from Mississippi river 2 Atlantic ocean and from Canada 2 North Carolina. In winter, it snowed and in summer, it rained, so it was a forest. Deers, bears, birds, fish ,green nuts, berries, sunflowers,and syrup was used as food.
1.11 What materials and tools did the people in the Eastern Woodlands use? Skirts, capes, and moccasins from deer skins were used for clothing and nets and spears were used tools.
1.11 How were houses made in the The Eastern Woodlands and out of what materials? Sturdy log frame houses covered with elm bark. Houses were about 20 ft. wide and could be over 100 ft. long. Several families could live in these houses.
1.12 What was the climate like in the Southeast and what did the land look like/contain? (including food sources) the climate was warm and humid in the summer and they had mild winters. This area had fertile coastal plains, river valleys, mountains, and swamps.
1.12 What materials were used to build houses in the Southeast and why were mounds built? The houses were built around mounds due to spiritual reasons. Strips of trees were woven into a rectangle plastered with clay. The houses's roots were made out of leaves at the point.
1.12 Which tools/materials proved to be useful to the people in the Southeast? Wooden wove deerskins skirts were made because the Southeast did not have enough time to make clothing. PLenty of jewelry was made.Baskets, wooden handguns, and bone arrows were used.
