| Ural Mountains | Forms the boundary between Europe and Asia |
| Pyrenees Mountains | A range that extends along the border between France and Spain |
| Alps | A range in south central Europe that stretches from east France and north Italy through Switzerland and Austria |
| River | A large flowing body of water that usually empties into a sea or ocean |
| Danube River | The second longest river in Europe. It flows east to west from Germany to the Black Sea. |
| Rhine River | Originates in the Alps and flows NW to the North Sea |
| Sea | A large salty body of water that may be partly or completely surrounded by land |
| Mediterranean Sea | The world's largest inland sea that is located between Europe, Africa, and Asia |
| Strait | A narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
| Channel | A body of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
| English Channel | A narrow sea found between Great Britain and France |
| Bay | A body of water that is partly enclosed by land (smaller than a gulf) |
| Bay of Biscay | A body of water located west of France and northwest of Spain |
| Plain | Flat lands that have only small changes in elevation |
| North European Plain | A vast, flat area that stretches from France's Atlantic coast to the Ural Mountains |
| Fjord | A long, narrow inlet that is bordered by steep cliffs |
| Glacier | A long-lasting, slowly moving body of ice on land |
