Marco Polo Goals: Exploration, and a trade route with Asia. Results: Set up a trade relationship with Asia.
Christopher Columbus Goals: Set up trade route with Asia (India). Results: Discovered the New World.
Bartholomeu Dias Goals: Sea trade route to India. Results: Discovered Cape of Good Hope. This led to the possibility of a trade route with India by sea.
Vasco Da Gama Goals: Bring back spices and jewelry. Results: Traveled to India by sea.
Ferdinand Magellan Goals: Western routes to the Spice Islands. Results: First to circumnavigate the world.
Amerigo Vespucci Goals: Locate North and South Stars. Results: America is named after him because he realized it was separate from Asia. Also found that South America was huge.
Vasco Nunez de Balboa Goals: Explore the new sea and bring back gold. Results: First European to sail to and explore the Pacific Ocean.
Hernan Cortez Goals: Claim land in the New World for Spain. Results: Conquered the Aztec Empire.
John Cabot Goals: Find the Northwest Passage. Results: First to find North America. Made the claim to the 13 colonies. Explored the land.
Francisco Pizarro Goals:Find riches, spread Catholic faith, and claim land. Results: Conquered the Inca and brought back gold. Also explored South America.
Juan Ponce de Leon Goals:Wanted to find Fountain of Youth and land for Spain. Results: Discovered Florida and claimed it for Spain; same with Cuba. Also found the Gulf Stream.
Samuel de Champlain Goals: Claim land and get accurate maps. Results: Explored the St. Lawrence River. Also founded Quebec and made first accurate maps.
Hernando de Soto Goals: Find gold and get a new route to China. Results: Found the Mississippi River.
Henry Hudson Goals: Find the Northwest Passage. Results: Explored the eastern coast of North America and discovered the Hudson River.
Francisco Coronado Goals: Find the Seven Cities of Gold. Results: Found the Grand Canyon.
Sir Francis Drake Goals: Get money, slaves, and harass the Spanish. Results: Claimed California for England. Circumnavigated the world first for England. Also harassed Spain in New World.
Jacques Cartier: Goals: Get gold, spices, and a waterway to China. Results: Claimed Canada for France and explored Gulf of St. Lawrence.
