Underground railroad a system of routes the Abolishonists created in order to get slaves to the north to free them
Dred Scott A slave that believed he was free after his master died. Sued the master's wife claiming her was free. Court said blacks have no rights
Freedman's bureau an agency used to help reconstuct the south. helped slaves with food, shelter, and education
Carpet Bagger Northerners who moved to the south to start businesses and run for political office
Black Codes laws in the south to ensure that slaves had very limited rights
radical republicans People who believed that the south should be punished after the civil war
13 amendmant abolished slavery and unvoluntary servitude
14th amendmant all people born in the united states are citizens.
15th amendmant prohibits the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's "race, color, or previous condition of servitude".
