| Enumerated | Powers given to the federal government only. |
| Concurrent | Powers shared by the national and state governments. |
| Executive Branch | The branch of government that enforces the laws. |
| Preamble | The introduction to the constitution that states the goals for government. |
| Amendment | Any change to the constitution. |
| Separation of Power | The idea that government should be divided into 3 branches to avoid abuse of power. |
| The Charters of the VA Company | Established that the rights of Englishmen would be guaranteed to the colonists. |
| Elastic Cause | Gives Congress the power to makes all laws necessary and proper to carry out it's duties. |
| Reserved | Powers given to state governments only. |
| Virginia Bill of Rights | Served as the model for the Bill of Rights of the U.S. |
| Legislative Branch | Branch of government that makes laws. |
