QuestionAnswer
What did England want from the new world? They wanted raw materials from the new world.
What did the New World serve as for England? The new world served as a place for England to put their poor.
Why did the number of poor increase so rapidly in England? They increased due to land restrictions.
What years did the poor's numbers increase? From the 1600s to the 1700s
When and where did England establish Jamestown? The English established Jamestown in 1607 and off the coast of North Carolina.
What two places did England fail to colonize? They failed to colonize in Roanoke and Newfoundland.
What is a raw material? A raw material is a resource that is natural.
What is a manufactured good? A manufactured good is a resource made into something such as cotton into a shirt.
Who did the colonists live alongside? They lived alongside the Algonquin Indians led by Powhatan.
Who was John Smith? John Smith was an adventurer that had traveled the world and led the colony up until he was involved in a gunpowder incident.
What was Jamesfort? Jamesfort was the fort made at the colony to protect from indians, but the fort had a bad location because it was not far enough upstream, which caused the water to be too salty, and the marshy area caused disease carrying mosquitoes.
Who was John Rolfe? John Rolfe married Pocahontas and brought somewhat peace.
