What year was Jamestown founded? 1607
What three reasons did the Europeans want to colonize North America? Fresh goods, an abundant of natural resources, and as a place to send the poor
Where was Britain's first to failed attempts located? Newfoundland and Roanoke
Where was the first successful colony located? Jamestown, Virginia 1607
Why did the colonists have to rely on a neighboring tribe the Algonquins for food? Because they spent so much time looking for precious metals instead of getting food
What was your chance of survival for the first 5 years in Jamestown? 50%
What does raw material mean? What about a manufactured good? A raw material is something that is in it's natural state. A Manufactured good is something that has been changed by a man.
Who financed the colony? The Virginia Company
What tribe was along side the colonists? The Algonquins
Who first made colonists work and what happened to the man? Captain John Smith and he was involved in a gunpowder accident
What vital role did John Rolfe play? He introduced the first cash crop, tobacco, and he married Pocahontas
Why was the location of James fort placed badly? It wasn't far enough upstream to get away from the salt water, and it was located by a marsh causing disease carrying mosquitoes to be near
What happened during the starving time of 1608-09? The colonists were trapped in the fort due to bad relations with the Algonquins so they resorted to cannibalism
