Who else lived in the region and who was the leader? | Algonquian Indians, and ruled by Powhatan. |
Who lived in Jamestown? Why? | Aristocrats and their servants for precious metals such as gold. |
Who came in to Jamestown and helped them get food? | John Smith |
Why did John Smith return to England? | Gun shot wound. |
What happened to Pocahontas? | Some people say that she saved John Smith's life from execution. She then was kidnapped and married to John Rolfe. |
Where was James Fort? Why was this bad? | By the Jamesriver, which was too close to the ocean and not far enough up stream, so they didn't have enough fresh water. They also were near a marsh, which had disease carrying misquitoes. |

What happened during the Starving Times? | Bad relationship with Algonquians, low food supply (ship never came), cold winter, cannibalism, disease, conflict with Native Americans in the area. |
Why did John Rolfe marry Pocahontas? | To make friends with the Native Americans in the area. |
