What are the 3 kind of local governments? Genernal purpose units of government, Single purpose Government, Special units of government
What are 3 types of General purpose unit governments? Counties, townships, Minicipality
General purpose units of government..... provides wide variety of services to citizens (police, sewers, water, parks, road)
Counties 83 counties in Michigan, principle subdvision of state, governed by board of commisioners
Townships was never supposed to be goverment, 6 miles squares, grids on map, governed by board of trusties
What are Minicipalities? City, village, chartered townships
City organization that chooses to seperate itself from township, its an autarchy - self sufficient
village aligned with township pay taxes to both township and vilages and share services
City and Villages are... governed by council or comsion they are both elected
Charter unique designation we can give a city or township
In Michigan... city, villages, and charters - are dominated by state constitution an other state statuts (rules, regulations arewell stuctures from above [very little autonomy], general law
Charter allows village adn townships.... more local control (increase taxes and more services of people)
Single purpose unit government public school district, community college taxing districts (should piblic be involved in privet stuff)
Special units of governments issue or circumstance that cuts across traditional political bounderies (counties, townshps or citys)
Soil conservation districts The big drought, bad farming practices (before dust Bowl), this district wrote rules on smart farming
