petroglyph carvings in rock
elder an older member of a community respected for great knowledge
archaeologist a scientist who studies past human life and activities by examining physical evidence
perspective the way a person sees the world
oral history the retelling of stories about the past in order to teach about one’s culture
artifact any object made, used, or changed by humans
scientific method a process using experiments and careful observation to test ideas and theories
hypothesis an educated guess or theory about something
glaciers these used to cover the entire state of MN, making the climate very cold
Lake Agassiz once the glaciers left MN, this covered a large part of the state
hunting this included large game like mammoths when the glaciers were still around, then turned to mostly smaller game after the glaciers left
TODALSS the acronym used to remember the important parts of a map
the T in TODALSS Title - the name of the map
the O in TODALSS Orientation - compass rose showing which way is North
the D in TODALSS Date - the date the map was made
the A in TODALSS Author - who made the map
the L in TODALSS Legend - the key showing what all the symbols on a map mean
the S's in TODALSS Source and Scale - where the map was found and how many miles an inch/cm is equal to on a map
