| elder | an older member of a community respected for great knowledge |
| archaeologist | a scientist who studies past human life and activities by examining physical evidence |
| perspective | the way a person sees the world |
| oral history | the retelling of stories about the past in order to teach about one’s culture |
| artifact | any object made, used, or changed by humans |
| scientific method | a process using experiments and careful observation to test ideas and theories |
| hypothesis | an educated guess or theory about something |
| glaciers | these used to cover the entire state of MN, making the climate very cold |
| Lake Agassiz | once the glaciers left MN, this covered a large part of the state |
| hunting | this included large game like mammoths when the glaciers were still around, then turned to mostly smaller game after the glaciers left |
| TODALSS | the acronym used to remember the important parts of a map |
| the T in TODALSS | Title - the name of the map |
| the O in TODALSS | Orientation - compass rose showing which way is North |
| the D in TODALSS | Date - the date the map was made |
| the A in TODALSS | Author - who made the map |
| the L in TODALSS | Legend - the key showing what all the symbols on a map mean |
| the S's in TODALSS | Source and Scale - where the map was found and how many miles an inch/cm is equal to on a map |
