| autocracy | a government with a single ruler with unlimited power, and citizens have little or no role in the government. Example: Cuba |
| democracy | a government with supreme power given to the people. Examples: United Kingdom, Russia, and Germany |
| parliamentary democracy | a government with executive power given to members of a legislature who choose a leader. Examples: United Kingdom and Germany |
| presidential democracy | a government with separate executive and legislative branches, which are both elected by the citizens. Example: Russia |
| monarch | a king or queen who inherits the position. Example: United Kingdom |
| prime minister | the title of the head of government in most parliamentary democracies. Example: United Kingdom |
| head of government | the top leader who manages day-to-day activities in a government |
| head of state | the top leader who represents a government at official and ceremonial functions, but may not manage day-to-day activities |
| chancellor | the title of the head of government in Germany. |
| president | the title of the head of government (and head of state) in a presidential democracy; Example: Russia |
| bicameral | having a legislature divided into two houses. |
| political party | an organization which represents a specific political agenda and socioeconomic positions within a given nation. |
