7th graders

Geography This is the study of the environment, people and the resources they use.
Natural Environment This includes everything that is living and not living that occurs naturally.
Human Environment This includes humans and things made by humans, including physical, natural social and economic systems.
Movement This is when people, goods, ideas and physical forces change location.
Latitude These imaginary lines run from east to west and are always parallel to each other. They measure distance north and south of the equator. They are called parallels.
Longitude These imaginary lines measure distance east or west of the Prime Meridian and are called meridians.
Compass This is a directional indicator, which means that it shows direction.
Equator This is the imaginary line that circles the globe halfway between the North and the South. It is 0 degrees latitude.
Prime Meridian This is the imaginary line that represents 0 degrees longitude and runs through Greenwich, England.
Relative Location This is a place in relation to something else.
Absolute Location Exact location that uses either longitude and latitude or an exact address
Region Describes an area with unifying characteristics
Scale This is used to measure distance on a map.
