City-state An independent kingdom or state made up of a city and the surrounding lands it controls.
Civilization an advanced form of culture. Usually civilizations have certain characteristics.
Climate the general atmospheric conditions, or weather, of a particular location over a long period of time.
Scribe in ancient times, a person who has educated and wrote books or other documents by hand.
Silt Small particles of sediment and soil that are easily carried in water, often in rivers.
Trade Exchange of goods and services by sale or barter.
Epic A long narrative poem that describes heroic deeds.
Empire A large group of territories and people who are ruled by a single leader or nation.
