| Term | Definition |

| Reservation | An area of public lands set aside for Native Americans |
| Lode | An amount of a mineral (such as gold or silver) |
| Transcontinental | Going across a continent |
| Vigilante | A person who is not a police officer but who tries to catch and punish criminals |
| Brand | A mark that is burned into the skin of an animal (such as a cow) to show who owns the animal |
| Ghost Town | A town that no longer has any people living in it : an abandoned town |
| Subsidy | Money that is paid usually by a government to keep the price of a product or service low or to help a business or organization to continue to function |
| Ore | a naturally occurring mineral containing a valuable constituent (as metal) for which it is mined and worked |
