| Reservation | An area of public lands set aside for Native Americans. |
| Lode | a vein of metal ore in earth |
| Transcontinental | (especially of a railroad line) crossing a continent. |
| Vigilante | a member of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate. |
| Brand | a type of product manufactured by a particular company under a particular name |
| Ghost town | a deserted town with few or no remaining inhabitants. |
| Subsidy | a sum of money granted by the government or a public body to assist an industry or business so that the price of a commodity or service may remain low or competitive. |
| Ore | a naturally occurring solid material from which a metal or valuable mineral can be profitably extracted. |
| Open Range | a large area of grazing land without fences or other barriers. |
| Nomadic | roaming about from place to place aimlessly, frequently, or without a fixed pattern of movement |
| Homestead Act | a house, especially a farmhouse, and outbuildings. |
