TermDefinition
Reservation An area of public lands set aside for Native Americans.
Lode a vein of metal ore in the earth.
Transcontinental a transcontinental railroad or train.
Vigilante a member of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate.
Brand an identifying mark burned on livestock.
Ghost Town a deserted town with few or no remaining inhabitants.
Subsidy a parliamentary grant to the sovereign for state needs.
Ore a naturally occurring solid material from which a metal or valuable mineral can be profitably extracted.
Open Range a large area of grazing land without fences or other barriers.
Nomadic hunters gather tribes follow the animals they hunt, carrying tents with them. You don't have to be a nomad to live a nomadic lifestyle.
Homestead Act a house, especially a farmhouse, and outbuildings
