What does urban mean? An area with high population density
What does rural mean? An area with low population density
Define tundra Treeless plain where grasses and mosses grow
Define permafrost Permanently frozen soil
What three reasons prevent Russia from developing its natural resources? harsh climate huge size few navigable rivers
Define Gulf Stream/Atlantic Current An ocean current that moves warm water along the coast of North America. It crosses the Atlantic Ocean and warms Ireland and the western coasts of England Scotland and Wales.
What is the effect of the Gulf Stream on the United Kingdom and areas near it? It makes the climate much more mild than expected for that latitude.
How has its location benefitted trade in the United Kingdom? As an island it has many ports for shipping; it is located close to the mainland of Europe and many European countries.
How has Italy's location made trade easier? It is a peninsula along the Mediterranean Sea which gives it many ports and access to Europe Africa and Asia for trade
Why is the United Kingdom able to make better use of its ports than Russia? The mild climate keeps the United Kingdom's ports open all year while many of Russia's freeze.
