QuestionAnswer
Republican Government System for ruling which power is held by elected representatives who run for the common good.
Checks and Balances Distribution and balance of power among the three branches of government so one cannot dominate others.
Civic Virtue Dedication of citizens to the common welfare of their community.
Common Good The good of the community as a whole.
Consent of the Governed The expressed agreement by the people to obey the laws and government they create.
Constitution A set of customs, traditions, rules, and laws that set up the way a government is organized and operated.
Constitutional Government The powers of the rulers are limited as stated in a constitution.
Natural Rights States citizens have the right to life, liberty, and property and protection of them.
Separation of Powers Division of powers among the 3 branches of government.
Social Contract An agreement among people to set up a government and obey the laws created by it. *John Locke's philosophy for a legitimate government.
