| Sunbelt | A group of southern states that stretch from the East Coast to California |
| regions | areas that are similar in terms of landscape, climate, elevation, and plant and animal life |
| Coastal Plain | the southern most region of Georgia that covers 60% of the state; divided into Upper and Lower |
| fall line | the rise in elevation that separates the Coastal Plain from the Piedmont |
| Piedmont | a rolling, hilly plateau that stretches north from the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains |
| Appalachian Mountains | a large mountain range that stretches from Alabama to Canada (Covers 3% of GA) |
| Blue Ridge Mountains | the range of the Appalachian Mountains that stretch from Pennsylvania to Georgia. Oldest mountains in North America. |
| Valley and Ridge | a region that is part of the Appalachian Mountains that is characterized by fertile valleys that lay between mountains |
| Appalachian Plateau | (Covers 1% of Georgia) a plateau that stretches from Alabama to New York and makes up the west border for the Appalachian Mountains |

| aquifers | underground layers of rock and gravel where groundwater collects that is used by farmers and manufacturers |
| hazardous wastes | chemically based products which can be dangerous to people's health and the environment |
| Chattahoochee River | a river that flows south from the Blue Ridge mountains, through Atlanta, and forms most of the western border with Atlanta |
| Savannah River | a river that forms most of the northeastern border with South Carolina and serves as a shipping channel for the Savannah Port |
| drought | a period of time when there is a shortage of water because of insufficient rainfall |
